A look at WEEE Management with REVERTIA

Dear readers, I am Rachele Fussone, a PhD student at the University of Catania and I am excited to share with you my recent experience during my secondment in Pontevedra, Vigo.
During my time in Pontevedra, I had the privilege of collaborating with REVERTIA as non-academic partner in the Explicit project, specializing in the recycling and reuse of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). This collaboration aimed at the development of Work Package 3 (WP3) focused on in-depth case studies related to supply chain modeling within the circular economy.
REVERTIA’s expertise in the circular economy provided invaluable insights into sustainable business models and WEEE management. One of the highlights of my secondment was touring REVERTIA’s plant in Vigo, where I engaged in a valuable discussion with Ruben Vàzquez Fernàndez, sharing insights on circular economy practices. We explored the complexities of regulatory frameworks, the challenges of managing material flows, and the critical role of information management in optimizing recycling processes. This hands-on experience was invaluable in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications in the circular economy.
In addition, I had the opportunity to interact with the University of Vigo’s Post-Growth Innovation Lab. This interdisciplinary group, combining environmental science, economics, and social studies, is at the forefront of developing alternative economic models for a more sustainable future. Engaging with their research and perspectives further enriched my understanding of how circular economy principles can be integrated into broader socio-economic frameworks, reinforcing the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving meaningful change.”
